“This is an historic moment for UK-based company Nova Innovation – I believe the first company in the world to deploy a fully operational tidal array connected to the grid,” said Richard Graham MP.

The company based in Scotland deployed their second 100kW tidal power turbine in the Bluemull Sound in August which now provides commercial electricity into Shetland’s grid.

Richard said, “this is a really encouraging step forward for UK tidal power which continues to innovate. There are many more opportunities for clean, carbon-free electricity using British workers, resources and tides: and I hope the government will seize them.”

Tidal Lagoons and Marine Energy

Why Tidal Lagoons? Our Energy crisis We have a problem: our energy demands are rising, but capacity isn’t increasing fast enough, and gradually our aging nuclear power stations are going to be closed down. By 2030 our capacity needs to have increased by a quarter just to meet existing demand.
