Proposal for 2000+ new homes to be built in Whaddon Parish

Petition in relation to the proposal by Taylor Wimpey for 2000+ new homes to be built in Whaddon Parish.

We, the undersigned residents of Grange and Tuffley wards in the City of Gloucester, have real concerns with developers advancing a giant scheme for 2000+ new homes in the green fields adjoining Grange Road and stretching back through the Parish of Whaddon.

We believe this could result in severe road congestion, especially on Grange Road and Stroud Road, with the existing frequent bottlenecks at the railway bridge (Grange Rd) and the roundabout at St Barnabas being made significantly worse.

A large potential development would also risk additional flooding, due to extra run off from the increased concreting over of farmland which has already flooded many homes off Grange Rd in August 2007 and 2012. There is also a shortage of primary school and GP surgery places available nearby.

While we accept the need for more housing and have accepted 250 new homes on Gloucester City Council land beside the railway adjacent line escarpment, we cannot accept such a plan. It would amount to a giant new village on the Stroud/Gloucester border, for which the infrastructure would be wholly inadequate. We hope you will not entertain any such proposal in the Stroud District Plan.
